One of the best parts of quilting is how it follows the rhythm of the seasons. We move from bright summer tones to cozy autumn hues, and before we know it, holiday reds and winter greens start taking over our sewing tables. Every season brings its own mood, colors, and creative spark — and we quilters love that little shift in inspiration that keeps ideas flowing all year long.
QuiltInk makes it easy to embrace that rhythm. You can test new color palettes, explore fabrics, and plan your next seasonal quilt without cutting a single piece of fabric. It’s your creative playground — a space to color freely and see how your favorite patterns transform from fall warmth to winter sparkle.
And as November begins, many of us are already sketching out our Christmas projects — from festive table runners to cozy throws that make the perfect handmade gift. On QuiltInk, you’ll find plenty of inspiration for the season, including printed fabrics that capture the holiday spirit beautifully, like the new Gingerbread line by Kiley’s Quilt Room. So grab your favorite pattern, open QuiltInk, and start coloring your next holiday masterpiece!
Keep reading to discover new patterns, explore upcoming events, meet new designers and shops with our interviews, and don’t miss our November QuiltInk Challenge — it’s a fun way to stay creative this season and maybe even win an amazing prize! 🎁 |

This month, the QuiltInk world has been buzzing behind the scenes! Between managing new pattern activations, preparing for upcoming seasonal projects, and keeping everything organized at home, it’s been a busy but exciting time.
We’ve also been rolling out new updates and features across the platform, including improvements to the designer, supporter, and shop interfaces—making it easier than ever to navigate, organize, and plan your quilt projects. Plus, there’s a big new feature coming soon that some designers are already testing, and I can’t wait to share it with you!
Check below for the latest news! We hope you like them!

| |
Big changes have arrived inside QuiltInk! 🎉 Designers, Supporters, and Shops will now find a completely new interface to manage their patterns, mock-ups, and private spaces.
This modern and easy-to-navigate interface matches the fresh public look we launched a few months ago — bringing everything together in a more intuitive, organized, and inspiring environment. You’ll notice a new patterns display, an improved page organization, and smoother navigation across all your sections. I also expect to extend this new interface organization to the Private Rooms really soon, making the whole experience even more cohesive and user-friendly.
But this isn’t the big big news yet 😉 — it’s the foundation for what’s coming next! This interface will be the landing space for the major QuiltInk feature currently being tested by designers and soon to be shared with Supporters and Shops for early beta testing.
If you’re curious about what’s next and want to get early access to upcoming features, join us as a Supporter today! This next step will be a big leap for QuiltInk — and for all of you planning, coloring, and creating your quilty projects with us. 💜

Discover the Power of the Unmerge Option
One of the most valued and appreciated QuiltInk features is the Unmerge option — a really creative tool. It gives you the freedom to break the designer’s original color layout and color each section of a pattern independently. This means you can explore new color combinations, create your own layout, and give a completely personal twist to any design. |
| |
|
Unmerging opens the door to endless creativity — but remember, once you use it, the fabric requirements provided by the designer will no longer match your version, since your new layout is entirely unique.
And here’s a fun trick: you can also merge again after experimenting! Once you’ve found a color layout you love, merging allows you to group sections back together and play with your new color distribution more easily.
To merge or unmerge, simply click the icon inside the red circle on the image at the coloring page — it’s quick and intuitive. And the best part? 🎉 This is a free option available for all QuiltInk users! |

Last month, we continued our mini-series on color placement, focusing on how balance and control can transform a busy palette into a calm, cohesive design. We explored how neutrals and saturation can work together to give breathing space and create harmony.
This month, we’re taking our exploration a step further — because color never exists alone. The way it interacts with fabric texture, print scale, and surface quality can dramatically change how it’s perceived. Two fabrics with the same color value might look completely different depending on their weave or print.
If you’ve missed any of the previous parts, you can access all past newsletters in the Newsletter Archive and keep track of all our Color Theory lessons.
Texture in Color (Part 3)
The Hidden Dimension of Color
When we talk about color, we often think of hue, value, and saturation — but texture adds a fourth dimension. Matte solids, silky batiks, or printed cottons can all affect how color reflects light and interacts with its surroundings. A flat color in one fabric can appear more vibrant or subdued in another.
Print Scale & Visual Noise
Large-scale prints introduce movement and variation that can make colors appear more complex, while small or low-volume prints act almost like neutrals. Being intentional with print scale can help you control how busy or calm your quilt feels — and how your colors read from a distance.
Layering Depth with Fabric Choice
Texture and print aren’t just surface decoration; they can add depth and richness. Mixing solids with subtle patterns or linen blends can create layers of visual interest without overwhelming the design. Think of it as building a symphony — every fabric contributes a different tone to the overall harmony.
Texture Placement Tips
Even without changing your palette, you can use print and texture placement to shift the feeling of a quilt:
- Highlight or soften: Use small prints or matte fabrics for background areas where you want less attention, and shiny or bold prints to draw the eye.
- Add depth: Combine smooth solids in the foreground with textured or woven fabrics in the background for a sense of distance.
- Balance busy areas: If one section feels heavy with print, introduce quiet zones using tone-on-tone or low-volume fabrics to let the eye rest.
- Unify a mixed palette: Repeat one texture or print type across different colors to tie the design together.
Subtle texture choices can completely redefine a quilt’s character — turning the same color palette from minimal and modern to cozy and organic.
Texture in Action
In the examples below, you can see different mock-ups that share similar color palettes but use different types of texture or print. You’ll notice how even with matching colors, the feeling of a design can shift dramatically.
Observing how other quilters combine color and texture is a great way to expand your eye for detail and find new ideas for your next fabric pull. |
| |
|
Your Next Step
Explore the QuiltInk Wall to see how other quilters achieve balance and control in their mock-ups. Observing layouts that successfully mix neutrals, low-volume prints, and bold tones will inspire your own designs and help you understand the subtle ways color placement impacts perception. |
| |
Get Your QuiltInk Color Wheel Downloadables
Understanding color is one of the most powerful ways to elevate your quilting. This month, I didn’t create a new downloadable, but you can still access two valuable tools from recent newsletters: the Quilter’s Color Wheel and the Meaning of Color in Quilting guide. Both are designed to boost your color confidence and spark creativity.
These resources connect the emotions and theory of color to your projects, helping you make inspired choices—whether for bold contrasts or subtle harmonies. Keep them handy as practical references to make your quilts truly sing with color.
If you’re new or missed them before, now’s the perfect time to catch up. And stay tuned—more helpful downloadables are on their way!

You might have noticed that this month’s newsletter has arrived a few days later than usual — the first time that’s happened in almost two years! As I write these lines, I’m sitting on the sofa, giving my back a rest after a painful muscle strain. It’s my body’s way of saying “slow down,” after a few intense weeks of stepping out of my comfort zone and dealing with a lot of unexpected challenges.
As I mentioned last month, I’m in the final stages of bringing my new notion to life — a ruler! This last stretch has been exciting but also full of new experiences: barcodes, printing details, shipping logistics… all things I knew nothing about a few months ago. It’s been a real learning curve, and I think that mix of nerves and constant focus finally caught up with me.
Even so, I’m feeling hopeful and excited. Once I recover, I’ll be ready to share more about both my ruler and the big new QuiltInk feature we’ve been testing — I truly can’t wait for you to see it! Thank you so much to everyone who continues to follow, support, and share this journey with me. The quilting community never stops amazing me, and I feel deeply grateful to be part of it. 💜 |
