NEW OPTION - PRINTED FABRIC BIG DISPLAY
|
| |
As avid quilters, we know that fabric choice is everything. After coloring so many designs with QuiltInk, I noticed a small issue—the fabric prints were too tiny to fully appreciate the details. While the small circles worked great for solids, printed fabrics deserved more attention.
So, we’ve made a change! Now, on all QuiltInk coloring pages, you can switch to a new fabric display mode by simply clicking the "square" icon. This new view may show fewer fabrics at a time, but it lets you fully appreciate the intricate patterns of each print. And don’t worry, if you want to see them all, just scroll to the right!
I’m excited to share this update with you, and I hope it makes your coloring experience even better!

PATTERN RELEASE |
Sonar by Prairie and Ocean
Date: March 14th. |
Sonar was inspired by Janice's own personal desire to overcome my hestitation towards sewing curves. The curved pieces in each block are intentionally large, making the sewing process more forgiving and less 'finicky' than sewing smaller curves. Each block has ample trimming room to correct for misadventures. The stripes bring a fun geometric element to the design that contrasts beautifully with the curves. For those who prefer to avoid strip piecing long, narrow sections, the pattern also includes instructions for using striped fabric, offering an easier and equally striking alternative. |

PATTERN RELEASE |
Warped Rainbows by Maureen Garner Quilts
Date: Mid March. |
I've been doodling concepts for Warped Rainbow for several years. It wasn't until I took the class, Design with TouchDraw and the Drunkard’s Path, with Jenny Haynes from Papper, Sax, Sten, that I had the tools to create it. The quilt is 65% strip sets and plain blocks (yes, I calculated it), and much easier than it looks. There is a link to a video where I show you step-by-step how to cut the drunkard's path blocks using Jenny's templates as well as how to sew the blocks together. Once you get the smallest curve done in the drunkard's path, you will be home free!
The templates are included in the pattern, however, I recommend ordering Jenny's acrylic templates at www.pappersaxsten.com/product/multiple-drunkards-path-template-10-1-2/. There are so many beautiful blocks you can make with them.
The support and generosity of Jenny has allowed me to share this pattern with you. I named it Warped Rainbow, because it is a little dark and moody. (But it also looks great as happy and bright.) |

We all love adding printed fabrics to our quilts! They bring depth, texture, and personality to our designs. That’s why being able to color with real printed fabrics in QuiltInk is so exciting! And now, with our latest update, you can see them in a larger display when coloring—making it even easier to find the perfect print.
One cool thing about QuiltInk is that all printed fabrics are scaled to real quilt dimensions! This means that when you color your mock-up, you’re seeing the prints at the same size they will appear in your finished quilt. This is a game-changer for visualizing scale, ensuring patterns don’t get lost, and making confident fabric choices before you start cutting!
But where can you check out the printed fabrics available in QuiltInk? Here’s a quick guide to finding and using them!
You can color with printed fabrics from three sources:
- Fabric Shops – Fabrics uploaded by our partner fabric stores.
- Quilt & Fabric Designers – Prints from designers who create both quilt patterns and fabric collections.
- Your Own Uploads – Custom fabrics you add to your personal library.
To explore the printed fabrics available from Fabric Shops & Designers, simply visit their profile pages. Here’s how:
Find Fabric Shops & Designers in 3 Ways:
- From the Info Page – Visit QuiltInk’s Info page and access the Fabric Shops or Designers section. Click on any name to view their profile.
- From the Wall – Click the name of any designer or fabric shop on a mock-up they’ve shared.
- From the Pattern Page – Click at the designer name at the pattern page.
|
| |
Once on their profile, navigate to the Fabrics tab to browse their collections. You’ll see a large display of all their printed fabrics, ready to use in your mock-ups! |
| |
Reminder: You can also explore printed fabrics directly in the coloring page by clicking the palette icon and selecting the Fabric Shops/Designers tab.
Ready to bring your quilt mock-ups to life with stunning prints? Go check them out now! 🎉 |

As we continue exploring color harmonies, today we’re diving into Tetradic color harmony, a technique that involves selecting two pairs of complementary colors. This approach is similar to the Square color harmony, which we’ll explore next month, but the key difference is in how the colors are spaced around the color wheel. While Tetradic colors are two complementary pairs, Square harmony uses four colors spaced evenly, creating a more balanced color distribution.
What is Tetradic Color Harmony?
Tetradic harmony, also known as double complementary harmony, involves choosing two pairs of complementary colors. These colors are evenly spaced around the color wheel, creating a rich palette with high contrast. For example, if you select red and green as one pair, you might choose blue and orange as the second pair. This technique combines vibrant color contrast with balanced distribution, giving your quilt designs depth and energy. |
| |

| |
Meaning and Emotion
Quilts made with tetradic color harmony exude richness and vibrancy. The contrasting pairs create visual interest, while the even distribution of colors ensures a sense of balance. Whether you’re designing a bold, modern quilt or a more nuanced and subtle piece, tetradic harmony offers endless creative possibilities to energize your projects without overwhelming the viewer.
Focal Points in Tetradic Quilts
When working with tetradic palettes, the key to a successful design lies in balancing the intensity of each color. It’s important to decide which color pairs will dominate and which will act as accents. By playing with fabric textures, prints, and the placement of colors, you can highlight specific areas of your quilt and create visual depth and movement.
Quilting Application
Tetradic palettes provide a rich playground for creativity. Whether you're working with solids, prints, or textured fabrics, this color harmony allows you to explore different combinations of hues. The balance of two complementary pairs gives you freedom to experiment with dynamic contrasts while maintaining a cohesive feel in your quilt.
Tetradic Inspiration!
Below, I’ve selected two stunning tetradic mock-ups from the QuiltInk wall to showcase the potential of this color harmony. Notice how the bold contrasts of the complementary color pairs create striking designs while maintaining balance and unity. These examples highlight how the tetradic approach can elevate your quilt to new creative heights.
By experimenting with tetradic color schemes, you can push the boundaries of your quilting creativity and explore new ways to combine colors for impactful designs! |
| |
Explore and Create Your Own Color Palettes!
To help visualize how Tetradic colors work, I used the Adobe Color online tool to generate the palettes featured below the mockups. This tool makes it easy to experiment with different harmonies and find the perfect color combinations for your quilts.
I encourage you to try it out! Play with the color wheel, explore various harmonies, and create palettes that match your quilting vision. You might just discover your next favorite color combination! |

This month, our family has grown with the arrival of a new member—a two-year-old foster dog. He’s a playful and energetic Border Collie mix, and he’s joined our other dog, a Border Collie/Breton mix. With two dogs now in the house, there’s certainly more energy—and let’s just say, a little competition for the top spot in the pack! They’re still figuring out who’s the boss, but I’m confident that, with time and patience, they’ll learn to get along. For now, it’s all about navigating their personalities and ensuring they both feel loved and secure in their new home.
Adopting a dog is such a rewarding experience. Giving a dog the chance to be part of a family, to feel safe and cared for, is truly special. It's a reminder of how important it is to offer second chances, whether it's to an animal in need or in other areas of our lives.
As we continue working on QuiltInk updates and adding new options, we’re also embracing this new chapter at home. While we’re dealing with some playful rivalry between the dogs, we’re also learning how to manage the extra energy, just as we work to improve the QuiltInk experience to make it better for you. With every new challenge, there’s an opportunity for growth—and we’re excited to keep making progress, both at home and with QuiltInk. |
