Master the QuiltInk Patterns Page
With 348 active patterns on QuiltInk—and expecting this number to grow considerably with the new designer plans—it’s essential to know how to explore the platform effectively so you don’t miss any design that matches your style or project. The QuiltInk patterns main page is packed with options to help you find the perfect match:
- Search Bar: Look up specific patterns or designers directly by typing their name.
- Filters: Use filters to refine your search by Designer Name, Technique, or Kits—highlighting patterns with curated fabric kits from shops.
|
| |
To make navigation easier, look out for helpful icons displayed over patterns:
- Teal icons: Highlight Sew Alongs (SAL), Block of the Months (BOM), or new pattern releases. By clicking on the icon, you can access all the event details and a link to the designer’s website.
- Yellow icon: Indicate patterns with curated fabric kits, making it easy to source all the materials. By clicking on the icon, you’ll see the fabric shop that set up the kit and be directed to their QuiltInk page to color the pattern using their fabrics.
- Lock icon: Represent community patterns requiring a code from the designer for access, often tied to memberships or pre-releases.
- "?" Image: If you encounter a pattern with a "?" image, it means the designer has chosen not to make the pattern public yet. If it’s in community mode, you’ll need a code to access and view the design.

As we continue our exploration of color harmonies, let’s dive into one of the most visually striking combinations: complementary color harmony. This bold approach pairs opposites to create dynamic and attention-grabbing quilts.
What is Complementary Color Harmony?
Complementary harmony involves using two colors that are directly opposite each other on the color wheel. Think red and green, blue and orange, or yellow and purple. These combinations naturally create high contrast and vibrant energy, making them perfect for quilts with a bold statement. |
| |

| |
Meaning and Emotion
Complementary quilts exude energy and vibrancy. The contrast between the two colors delivers a sense of excitement, while their balanced use ensures a harmonious design. Whether you’re crafting a cheerful holiday quilt with red and green or a dramatic piece with blue and orange, complementary harmony brings life and movement to your projects.
Focal Points in Complementary Quilts
To make complementary designs successful, balance is essential. Choose one color as the dominant shade and use the other as an accent. This approach allows the boldness of the colors to shine without overwhelming the overall design. Introducing neutral tones or gradients can also soften the contrast and enhance the composition.
Quilting Application
Complementary color palettes offer endless opportunities for experimentation. Pair solids with bold patterns or mix textured fabrics to explore the interplay of hues. Whether you're aiming for a modern quilt or a timeless classic, complementary harmony ensures a design that captivates and inspires.
Complementary Inspiration!
To spark your creativity, I’ve selected two stunning complementary mock-ups from the QuiltInk wall. These designs showcase the power of contrasting colors, highlighting how opposites on the color wheel can come together to create impactful and dynamic quilts. |

As we are at the beginning of the year, although I’m not someone who loves setting up goals at the start of the year, I do have one for 2025: sew, sew, and sew.
If I told you how long it’s been since I’ve spent meaningful time with my sewing machine—completely focused on creating—you wouldn’t believe me. So, I won’t even say it, but just know it’s been a long, long time.
I’ve always loved creating artistic quilts, adding a touch of free-motion quilting to them. Besides that, I’m also a quilt pattern designer, and I’m excited to bring new and modern quilt patterns soon. This year, I want to return to my sewing machine and immerse myself in the handwork that I’ve been missing so much. It’s not just about making quilts; for me, sewing is a way to destress, find balance, and reconnect with the creativity that sparked my journey in quilting in the first place.
If you’d like to follow my sewing journey, I invite you to join me on Instagram at @quiltilus. I’m also working on a new website, which I hope will be ready soon, with some big news coming your way.
Here’s to more stitching, more creating, and more time doing what truly brings joy and calm to my life! |
